Annointing of the Sick – A Sacrament of Healing
The Anointing of the Sick continues the healing ministry of Jesus. Throughout the Gospels, Christ showed deep care for the sick and suffering. In this sacrament, the Church asks God to bring spiritual healing, and when it is His will, physical healing as well. The sacrament reminds the faithful that they are never alone in their suffering—God’s grace is present even in times of weakness and illness.
Who Can Receive the Anointing?
- Anyone suffering from a serious illness
- Those preparing for major surgery
- The elderly whose health is declining
- Individuals facing serious physical or mental health challenges
A person may receive the sacrament more than once, especially if their condition worsens or if they develop a new serious illness.

Last Rites – A Time of Prayer and Peace

Last Rites refer to the final prayers and sacraments given by the Church to a person who is nearing the end of life. These sacred rites help prepare the soul to meet God with peace, hope, and trust in His mercy. Through these prayers and sacraments, the Church accompanies the dying person with spiritual comfort and the promise of Christ’s eternal life.
Last Rites usually include three sacraments and prayers offered to someone who is seriously ill or approaching death:
Holy Communion (Viaticum) – The Eucharist is received as spiritual nourishment for the final journey to eternal life.
Confession (Reconciliation) – The person is given the opportunity to confess their sins and receive God’s forgiveness.
Anointing of the Sick – The priest anoints the person with holy oil and prays for healing, strength, and peace.
Funerals
The loss of a loved one is a deeply emotional and sacred moment in life. At St. Mary’s Church, we invite families to celebrate and commend the life of their deceased loved ones through a solemn, prayerful, and hope-filled funeral liturgy within the Church. Rooted in faith and tradition, the Catholic funeral honors the life of the departed while entrusting them to God’s mercy and the promise of eternal life.
Our parish is here to support and guide families through the funeral planning process with compassion and care. We work with families and funeral homes to ensure that the liturgy is both meaningful and faithful to the traditions of the Church.
