Welcome To St. Mary’s Nutley
Welcome to St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Our goal is to be a parish where all people can encounter the Risen Christ in all stages and circumstances of life.
Whether you are with us as a visitor or as a parishioner, we hope to provide a welcoming environment where we may join together as a parish family to give praise and thanks to God for his abundant love.
Guided by the Holy Spirit, we seek to become the people God has created us to be so that we may share His love, joy, peace and mercy with those in our surrounding and global community.
We invite you to join us with your unique gifts and talents to help be builders in God’s Kingdom.
We look forward to walking with you and your family in your life long journey of faith!
Brief History of St. Mary’s Nutley
At its founding, land was donated in the Avondale section of Nutley in the 1870’s. This was followed by the ground breaking and laying of the cornerstone on September 22, 1872. The first Mass was said on Christmas Day, 1876 in the Brownstone Church that once stood on St. Mary’s Place.

Pellentesque
Since that time, our Parish has had thirteen shepherds to date that have guided St. Mary’s to where it is today. It is amazing that we have grown so much and now worship in the third St. Mary’s Church. In gratitude, we look back and thank God for all the good that has been accomplished in the past 140+ years.

Our Current Faith Community
We have grown as a Parish family into a thriving faith filled community in our Catholic tradition. We look forward in hope to our bright future and all that lies ahead. May we learn from those who have gone before us. With hope and joy, we look forward to our 150th Anniversary.
May this festive occasion of such an important milestone lead us into the future firmly grounded in the hope of the risen Lord Jesus. We call upon Him to guard and guide us on our journey as the Parish family of St. Mary’s.
